TAHITI lies half way between California and Australia in the Southern hemisphere, latitude 17 degrees south, longitude 149 degrees west.
The five archipelagoes which form French Polynesia are composed of some 118 islands which cover an ocean area about the size of Europe without Russia. The total land area of these islands adds up to only 1,550 square miles.
TAHITI is the largest island, 1,042 square kilometers and belongs to the Society Islands.
The Tuamotu are composed of 76 atolls or low islands, famous for their pearl farming. Rangiroa, Tikehau, Manihi, and Fakarava are the most frequently visited.
The Marquesas archipelagos, the Land of Men, offers imposing landscapes with its cliffs and deep valleys. No wonder why Paul Gauguin and Jacques Brel have chosen to live in the Marquesas, a place of secrets and treasures.
